Banyu Kasongan Homestay

What the FAQ

The real questions people actually ask

🏠 About our space

A homestay means you’re staying in our actual home – we live here too. You’ll see us around, share the same kitchen and common areas, and experience daily life as it actually happens. A guesthouse is more like a mini-hotel where owners don’t live on-site. We’re a homestay – this is our home, and you’re temporarily part of our household.

Our bedrooms face outward to the front yard – you enter directly from outside, not through a main building. Think of it like a motel setup but in a home setting. Your room has its own external entrance, so no walking through our living space or awkward hallway encounters.

Both are outside in our northeast area. The kitchen is fully equipped and shared among all guests and hosts. The dining table is also outdoors – perfect for morning coffee or evening meals under the stars. We provide ashtrays for smokers.

Tirto Cemetery is literally our neighbor. It’s actually what makes this place so peaceful – no noisy neighbors, no late-night parties, just ancient trees and genuine quiet. Some find it philosophical, others just appreciate the silence. If cemeteries make you uncomfortable, this isn’t your place.

🛏️ Rooms & facilities

We have shared bathrooms (and private ensuite option as well). Cold water only – which is actually refreshing and good for your skin. Basic but clean, with quality toiletries provided. You’re sharing with other guests and us hosts.

You can smoke in outdoor areas (we provide ashtrays at the dining table), but not in bedrooms or covered areas. Be considerate of non-smoking guests.

We have three cats including Kim, our “Head Concierge.” They’re friendly but won’t be allowed in your room unless you specifically want their company. If you’re allergic or don’t like cats, let us know.

Yes, it works well for video calls, uploads, and regular work needs. We get digital nomads regularly. Just don’t expect fiber-speed internet – this is a village, not the city center.

👥 Who can stay

We’re next to Tirto Cemetery, which some children might find unsettling. Also, our outdoor setup and shared spaces work better for mature travelers who can respect quiet hours and shared amenities. Plus, we cater to solo travelers and couples seeking peace – not family vacation vibes.

Yes, we regularly host solo female guests. The area is very safe, and you have your own room entrance. We’re always around if you need anything.

Overnight guests must be registered and paid for. Day visitors are fine but should be respectful of the shared space and other guests seeking quiet.

🍳 Kitchen & food

Yes, with an exception to pork and lard. It’s a fully equipped shared kitchen – make coffee at 5 AM, cook dinner at midnight, whatever. No permission needed, no schedules. Just clean up after yourself like you would at home.

Perfect – you control your own food. The kitchen has everything you need to cook your preferred meals. We don’t provide cooked meals, so dietary restrictions are entirely in your hands.

🚗 Getting here & around

Grab bike / Goride work fine, though drivers sometimes need directions. We’re next to the cemetery (easiest landmark) and Papermoon Residence. You can also rent a motorbike in the city. Not walkable from tourist areas, which is exactly why it’s quiet here.

Self check-in available. We’ll send you details before arrival. The outdoor room layout makes this easy.

📋 Policies & practical

Usually yes, depending on availability. We offer better rates for longer stays. Just ask – we’re flexible with good guests.

We keep it simple and fair – free cancellation until 2 PM on your arrival day. Need to reschedule instead? We’ll allow one free date change for direct bookings through our website or WhatsApp. No penalty fees, no complicated terms. Just let us know as soon as your plans change.

Third-party booking platforms may have different terms – direct bookings always get our most flexible policy and best rates.

We don’t provide laundry service on-site, but there are a few local laundry services nearby, or you can hand-wash if needed.

No. We’re happy to point you toward interesting pottery workshops or give directions, but we’re not a tour agency. Part of the authentic experience is discovering things yourself.
